Thinking and Doing

Kept walking past this little log cabin block that got orphaned through an unfortunate quilt design accident and suddenly decided to put it within a small wall quilt. I was even determined to finish it completely, so did hand quilting and a label:

So does this count as a Finished Flimsy for the Challenge (logo at right) even though it's only 11" square? Oh OK, I guess not.

Did a Dear Jane block:

You know how zandsfabrics wraps your purchase in a thick fabric bow? That's what the red and cream stripe is from.

These Stars Around the Garden blocks are going OK. I'm not worried about them:

It's the other set. What a mess. I really spent some time agonizing over these blocks. I looked at them. I hated them. I studied Pennsylvania German quilts in my books. I considered not making any more of these and doing only the group above.

I decided that it might help if I imitated the Nearly Insane setting. It looks like that quilt has tan sashing and red cornerstones.

Devised a tan-and-red plan on EQ:

From stash:

A Whimsical Hand-Dye by Whimsicals for Four Corner Designs from A.E. Nathan. I need more of this. Does anybody have some of this that they would like to sell?

Also from stash:

Isn't this an incredible print? I had just enough of this to fussy-cut the cornerstones. Does anybody know what this fabric is?

Decided not to use any more red or pink in future blocks. Made the next block in the series and tossed it all up on the design wall:

The setting color scheme is fantastic. Maybe I'll keep the setting and dump the blocks :-) .

The kitten is so adorable, full of energy now that her leg/hips feel better. She still doesn't have a name, unless you consider "you big imp-head get out of that" a name.

The bright stars that seem so non-coordinated seem a PERFECT opportunity for creativity! LOL, and your drawing and beginning plans are starting to look GOOD!

Wow, that setting does WONDERS! for those blocks. I'd go with it. And heck yes that little quilt counts! Anything where you finish a binding is in in my book. It is darling, your hand quilting is beautiful.

I just read all your emails from college. Too cute. The fabric softener thing still has me laughing.
Have a great weekend! Love Stacy

I like your tan and red setting ... but I like the bright multi-colored blocks, too.

Maybe her name IS Pepper?

Your setting is very good. Tames the blocks down. I say go with it and keep the blocks.

Nope, sorry I don't have any of that tan fabric. Love what you're doing with it though.

I guess if you call her it enough she'll think it's her name. Love that little orphan log cabin block quilt - just adorable, and your settings for the bigger blocks with the fussy cut corners are brilliant - sorry can't help you with the sandy coloured fabric, have you tried one of the fabric search websites? I'm sure there must be a blogger out there who knows the name of one

I have a "tortie" too, I'd call her Smudge for the streak on her nose!

Wow, love the mini and it certainly counts! Keep making the colorful blocks using more of a darker red and I think you'll like them with the great sashing choices.

That kitty looks almost identical to my first kitty jessie. She has the same coloring except that one half of her face was orange, the other block...but under her bottom lip, on her chin it was reversed!

I believe that red fabric is from a packet that I got a couple of years ago from Keepsake in one of their historical fabric medley of the month groups. I want to say it was from the civil war repros and had something to do with Pennsylvania. If I can find it in the mess upstairs I'll get back to you. Adorable kitty and beautiful blocks.

I say a quilt is a quilt - even if it is only 11" big. It is so cute!

The cornerstone fabric is marked Michael Miller Fabrics pattern
C-1189 on its selvedge. I don't remember the name of the collection it is from but it was out about the same time as Anita Shackleford's Pennsylvania collection. I have a large piece in my stash that I'm saving for something special.
