Very sad, took it apart, and did this instead:
Love it, but now there's no sign of the inspiration fabric. Ah well. I'll use it in something else. The tiny central block and outer border are from stash. I've had the tiny print leftovers forever 'cause I couldn't bear to throw away such a cute little print.

I've got a quilt like that. I started with some very colourful fabric that I had hoped to use in the border...but the quilt grew and grew and in the end I only had enough to use it for binding! I think you did the right thing taking it apart and adding a different background. I prefer the second one much more.
I think you made the right choice there.

I can see why that applique quilt with the pomegranates took ribbons. It's spectacular!
Oh yes, I like the new version better too. How would the "idea" fabric look on the back? And maybe the binding?
I've been so far behind on blogs - am finally just about caught up. I read all you posts for the past two months to see what you've been up to, as I know I love everything you do. Got such a chuckle out of the quotes from your son at college. He should write comedy! You've certainly been doing a lot of Jo's little quilts - her patterns are just the best, aren't they. Great catching up with what you've been doing, and congratulations and getting the never ending project off your design wall LOL!
I really love that pumpkin color you put in your little quilt. It balances it out beautifully.
I did not care for that quilt at all, so I was happy to read you ripped it apart and I LOVE what you came up with! The first version just didn't look like you. I love the broken dishes one - I may have to do something like that! And I so wish I could go to those East Cobb quilt shows! WOW!
okay, guess i'm a weirdo, but i like the first one. Although my tastes run my cottagy, and that version seems more cottagy! Thanks for sharing. love them :) rosemary
Thanks for all the photos. You are a better woman then I to take out all those stitches...I would have packed it in a bag and hoped I liked it better as it aged (or is that as I age?)

I found the name of the block: it's called Perpetual Motion or Comet Star.

Thank you Karen for posting the link to the Laurel Burch article, did not realize she was so ill and had passed away, so said to lose such a talented designer. And to think she did all that designing while being so sick and in so much pain. Nancy
