Scraps

Hanne and Mary (re Comments), never fear, there are other proliferating scrap piles in this Quilt House ;-). That one pile of little log cabin like strips, though, is intended for one of those "memory" strippy scrappy quilts that somebody described a few months ago. Like this:

where you use strips of fabric that you purchased that year for other projects and then you have a little "reference" quilt for favorite fabrics of that year. What a great idea.

Here's my daily painting for yesterday:

that would be like a chinese coin quilt...or bar quilt you see a lot of those in amish colors as well as baby quilts done in 30's prints.

I keep telling myself that ONE OF THESE DAYS I'm gonna dig out my scraps and make something with them. Really. I am. One of these days....*rolling my eyes* :oP

Hey, I have one of those baskets full of scraps!!! I need a picture-- we'll take one tonight.

Remember the story when you were a little kid above Jesus feeding 5000 with the basker of 5 fish and 2 loaves of bread... Quilting is the same way....Maybe we can keep 5000 warm from one basket scraps...

I love scrapquilts. The last days I have been cutting fabric from my stash to reduce it. I have plans to sew it together this weekend while being on a quilt retreat with good friends on a cabin in the woods. It will be a real scrapquilt. And even though I cut a huge pile of fabric for this quilt, I cannot se it have been reduced anything. From now on I will use my fabric, not store it for later projects.

I'm so glad I found your blog, I love your quilts and your art work. Do you sell your art work or just do it for your own pleasure?

Good to know I'm not the only one overflowing with scraps. I like the Chinese Coin setting and have one on my to do list.

I love your strip set quilt idea - I have an ever growing collection of 1 1/2" strips - a great way to use them up.

thanks for sharing the idea about the strips - I have a box that is full of little strips too and it would make a great memory quilt

I love your idea about a quilt a year from scraps. That would be an excellent way to use up so many scraps that take up room. And give us room to buy MORE fabric!!

Can I come to your house and play with your scraps? I am drooling, just looking at them ... there is nothing like a scrap quilt, and fondling old familiar fabrics, wondering how their lives are carrying on, wherever they now are ... Are we scrap quilters weird or are we weird?
