Quilt Top Lincoln's Platform

Last three blocks of the Lincoln's Platform and swooooop into the quilt top:

I think I'm going to put prairie points on the edge. Haven't done that for a long long time and I adore them. Except I forget how you finish the backing in that case.

This so pretty! It's been fun to watch you work on this as it has all the others. I'm still resisting. LOL

BTW, Karen I love my Jem Gold - it's a little workhorse. I've had it for over five years and it's always ready to go with me and just keeps on sewing!

What gorgeous fabrics and great use of a wide variety of colors. Can't wait to see if finished. I've never made prairie points, but would like to sometime.

Your blocks remind me of colored glass for some reason, and prairie points would go perfect with that block. I like them to. I've used them on small wall hangings but not large quilts. Good question about how to put the backing on prairie points. Let me know how you do it.

Hi Karen, your blocks look sooooo great! I really love what yOU'VE done with the challenge!
And you're buzzing right along. Prairie points sounds wonderful.

I can help you with that. Get your prairie points made, and pinned into place on the top of the quilt top and stitched down. They could go one before quilting, but I usually put them on near the end of the quilting. You have to be able to fold the batting and back out of the way. You don't want it through all three layers. Probably could stitch the batt down if it is a cotton type and not have a problem, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.
Once they are all stitched in place. Do any quilting right up to them that you need to finish.
Then gently ease or press them "OUT" away from the quilt top(I use my ironing board to work on so the rest hangs off)
The quarter inch stitches will get pressed towards the inner part of the quilt. At this point turn your backing edges under, usually only a quarter inch is needed, and pin. And then hand sew it down, either slip stitch or using that invisible applique stitch.
Prairie points are great, can be anysize square, and you need no binding..*VBS* Hope that helps..if not drop me an email..*VBS*

Forgot to say that the folded under edge of the backing lines up with and covers the seam from the prairie points..but you probably knew that..LOL

I especially like the coral block with purple border.

Prairie points will look so nice for the finished edge. I did them once, some time ago, but don't really remember the process.
