Dear Jane-ing and Quilting from Gifts

This is fun. Windham's Dear Jane fabrics came out, so I was able to do the center block with the same print that Jane used:

A triangle. I'm only two triangles behind, yayyy:

Also updated my Virtual Dear Jane chart (thank you, Sharon Mastbrook) that I have posted on "Folk Art Children:

It feels like I have done more than this. Ah well, enjoy the journey, eh?

Our Jo's Little Women groups recently received some fabric as a gift. Wonderful, dear fabrics. I've kept mine together with the idea of making a Little Quilt to remember the gift, etc., by. Never end a sentence with a preposition :-) . So here it is so far; this is about 20x24":

A little applique'ing will layer on top of this.

My latest addition to the Economize Whenever Possible effort (which has sadly been necessary my entire life anyway) in these Hard Times is to dry clothes on the line:

Also please note the pile of firewood. I am quite seriously not expecting to turn on the heat this year. Rembrandt looks on horrified. She had not realized we were a poor family. Cats expect the best, you know.

Didn't Rembrandt pick you? She must have known she was going to a fine home *s*
I would love to leave the heat off this year. Don't think Hubby will stand for it, though. So I'm mentally prepping my campaign for buying a cord of wood. You've inspired me *s*

Poor Rembrandt! She thought she had a silver spoon but it is only stainless steel. Tee hee. No really, she knows she's a lucky cat. She's just thinking how smart her mistress is to save that money to buy more cat toys.

We really try to not run the heat either. Days are OK, but the nights get chilly. It was 46 here this morning. Quilt weather!

I keep our heat very low, if on at all but poor hubby would freeze to death without, or so he claims. I remember our old condo with the best, cheapest gas fireplace that kept us in heat for about $40 a month! I swear somebody else was paying half that bill!

You really crack me up! At least you got some "free" wood. And you will have more sunlight after removing all those trees.
Wow-Dear Jane Fabric-genius!

Love your blocks. I'm with you on the heat thing though. We have a pile of firewood too. And I keep the heat at 66 during the day and 58 at night.

The new blocks look great and the gift fabric is prefect in those blocks, it's going to be a sweet quilt. Keep the fire going for Rembrandt to keep warm.

Looks like you're making good progress. I love that first block and man, does it look hard to put together!

Love your Dear Jane blocks. The green fabric is beautiful. I just make my first Dear Jane block last week. The Virtual DJ chart is a great idea. It sounds a little complicated. Maybe I will give it a try.

I love Dear Jane, made one block, it was a disaster and that was my entry into 'dear janeness'.. I line dry everything too, but then in Australia, its always summer! LOL
A friend gave me a notelet that says 'Thousands of years ago, cats were worshipped as gods... they have never forgotten this fact'.. I figure once the cat can open cans my days are numbered, until he can do this, I'll be sleepin' with one eye open!

Oh no - now I've done it. I'd like to blame you - but in all honesty I can't. I've resisted buying the Dear Jane collection - I really have - until I saw your block. Of course by now the fat quarter bundles are all gone from the sites that have good prices. I didn't care. I found a shop on www.quiltshops.com that had one and immediately ordered it. I've decided my Dear Jane really needs these fabrics!!!!!
